Mission

Responding to societal needs with the world's highest-performance synchrotron radiation

We provide world-class synchrotron radiation, thereby expanding the visible world and improving the quality of information obtained.
Contributes to advancement in science and industrial technology. Synchrotron radiation contributes to the formation of a sustainable society
Various achievements already contribute to a sustainable society, and we are also advancing energy conservation of light source accelerators
We are constantly developing accelerators aimed at "accelerators for synchrotron radiation use."

RIKEN RIKEN SPring-8 Center Director: Tetsuya Ishikawa

The RIKEN SPring-8 Center advances research and development of SPring-8, the Large Synchrotron Radiation Facility capable of generating the world's highest-performance synchrotron radiation, and SACLA, the X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility. Synchrotron radiation is electromagnetic waves generated when electrons accelerated to near the speed of light have their direction of travel changed by magnets or other means. The synchrotron radiation from SPring-8 and SACLA can elucidate the properties of matter at the atomic and molecular level and capture ultra-high-speed movements such as chemical reactions, and is used in cutting-edge research across a wide range of fields. We continue to provide stable, highest-performance synchrotron radiation while also advancing research and development toward the next-generation SPring-8.

Registered Institution for Facilities Use Promotion Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) Chairman of the Board: Atsushi Nakagawa

JASRI, as a Registered Institution for Facilities Use Promotion under the "Act on the Promotion of Shared Use of Specified Advanced Large Research Facilities," conducts business to promote the use of SPring-8 and SACLA, operates and maintains SPring-8/SACLA, provides synchrotron radiation to facility users, and conducts test research to promote synchrotron radiation research. We aim to contribute to the sustainable development and welfare of humanity by advancing various scientific fields and technologies using synchrotron radiation/free electron lasers and promoting industry, while also advancing strategic public relations that lead to the development of potential users.
