Novel Materials Design Approach Achieves a Giant Cooling Effect and Excellent Durability in Magnetic Refrigeration Materials 

A joint research team from NIMS, Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT), Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI), University of Hyogo, Tohoku University, and the Technical University of Darmstadt, developed a novel materials design approach that achieves a giant cooling effect and excellent durability in magnetic cooling materials whose temperature changes when a magnetic field is switched on and off.

How to Acquire Highly Accurate Data at SPring-8-II: Quantifying the Relationship between Bunch-Modes and Photon-Counting Detectors

Evaluated the effective maximum count rate of photon-counting 2D detectors for various bunch-modes (timing type of synchrotron X-ray pulses) at SPring-8 through simulations. As a result, they were able to quantitatively clarify the maximum count rate of photon-counting 2D detectors for each bunch-mode.

A new technique for exclusive visualization of platinum particles in catalysts used in fuel cells

 Albert Mufundirwa and other members of researchers at the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, in collaboration with Masazumi Arao and other members of researchers of FC-Cubic, have developed a method to visualize only platinum particles in carbon-supported platinum catalysts used in polymer electrolyte fuel cells.
